Job Summary
We are seeking a motivated and compassionate Band 5 equivalent Clinical Research Nurse to support the safe and effective delivery of clinical research. The post holder will work as part of a multidisciplinary team to support the recruitment, care, and monitoring of patients participating in clinical trials.
The role involves the coordination and delivery of research protocols in accordance with Good Clinical Practice (GCP), local and national regulatory requirements, and organisational policies. This is an exciting opportunity for a registered nurse with an interest in research to develop their skills and contribute to high-quality, patient-centred studies.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
Patient Recruitment and Care
- Identify and screen potential participants for eligibility in clinical trials
- Obtain informed consent in accordance with ethical guidelines and study protocols
- Provide nursing care and monitoring for participants throughout the duration of the study
- Act as a key point of contact for participants, offering support, education, and reassurance
Clinical Trial Management
- Set up and manage the day-to-day delivery of allocated research studies
- Administer investigational medicinal products (IMPs) and perform clinical procedures as per study protocols
- Collect, process, and ship biological samples where required
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation in source notes, CRFs, and electronic data systems
Governance and Compliance
- Ensure compliance with ICH-GCP, MHRA, HRA, and local research governance procedures
- Participate in monitoring visits, audits, and inspections as required
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of relevant research legislation and guidelines
- Adhere to Trust policies and support the promotion of a research-positive culture
Teamwork and Development
- Participate in research team meetings and multidisciplinary discussions
- Contribute to training, education, and mentorship of colleagues and students
- Engage in continuing professional development (CPD) to enhance research skills
- Assist in the development and review of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
Person Specification
Essential:
- Registered Adult Nurse with current NMC registration
- Minimum 6 months post-registration experience in a clinical setting
- Venepuncture, cannulation and sample handling experience
- Understanding of clinical research processes and ICH-GCP
- Excellent organisational and time management skills
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Desirable:
- Evidence of post-registration study or research training#
- Previous experience in research or clinical trials
